Spoilers think the only solution is not to play.
We’re back in the horror comedy genre, and frankly I so needed this. Yes, the formula is a variation of the first movie – but at least it does keep most of continuity by starting right where it left off. It also offers a new and diverse cast and location. Now, other than that it does follow a similar premise, but since the previous film came out back in 2019, it feels pretty much fresh considering all the other offerings we have out there. Before we go on, we should get this show on the road. Start your golf carts.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026) is directed once more by Matt Betinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. It is written by Gary Busick and R. Cristopher Murphy based on their own characters from the original. Grace (Samara Weaving) is back, receiving medical attention and possibly facing charges from the bloodshed from the last movie. She also must face her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton), with whom she has unresolved issues. This time both of them will have to join forces as the list of villains is an extended one.
Upfront is Ursula Danforth (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her brother Titus (Shawn Hatosy) who have inherited the high seat after killing their father Chester (David Cronenberg), at his own bequest. As all the families reconvene for another infernal gathering, the proceedings are presided over by a character only known as The Lawyer (Elijah Wood). Now Grace and Faith must survive until dawn… And the game is on.
Works well if you’re willing to play along. Of course, shady deals, loopholes and backstabbing is always what adds spice as the families constantly up the ante trying to get to the sisters first. Grace is no easy victim and Faith is definitely not falling behind, but they will have to overcome their past issues to get through the night.
Recommended for the horror comedy audiences, where death and gore is the punchline. It does seem to overstay its welcome just a bit, and I feel the ending lacks a little oomph. Still, very much worth a watch for the right audience.
That will do for now.
