If you were to go by most movies, you’d never go camping. Personally, I’m not sure if I’d miss modern plumbing or the internet first. Then again, I don’t think I want to know. All jokes aside, this was a rather well done feature that took advantage of the great views from British Columbia with some rather solid performances from the main cast. Let’s get a bit closer. Mind your step.

A Safe Distance (2026) is directed by Gloria Mercer and written by Aidan West. Alex (Bethany Brown) has gone through a lot in just a couple of days. First she grudgingly accepted to go camping with her boyfriend, then she gets proposed to in the middle of nowhere and finally she gets abandoned… Because she turned down the proposal. However, her luck is about to change after she ends up hurting herself and gets rescued by a very helpful couple. Kianna (Tandia Mercedes) and Matt (Cody Kearsley) seem particularly laid back and relaxed. However, Alex does remember that there’s a statewide alert for two bank robbers in the area.

What Alex is in for is a sudden change to her dull life into a voyage of self-discovery where she gets to push her own boundaries. This leads to a rather steamy interlude as well as discovering her own potential for less than legal endeavours. The reverie is going to be short before things come crashing down.

Recommended with reservations. It is a walk on the wild side for our protagonist and before she can get out in one piece she’ll have to face some tough encounters. Decent thriller all around and worth a watch.
