Well, this one was fun. The mockumentary is a strange beast of a genre. I can’t quite tell if it has been overused or just underused in its standard format. Perhaps what we need is a little more exploration, and this is what we’re going for in this combination of drama, horror and occasional comedy. This feature won the coveted Gold Audience Award for Best International Feature. You can read about the rest of the audience awards here.

I Love Paris (2026) is directed by Nicky Murphy and co-written with Animata Thiboult. We follow the life and career of Paris (Animata Thiboult), a struggling artist trying to make it in the music business. She’s a lively character, with big dreams and positive vibes. After a chance encounter with Lutèce (Leonor Oberson) her life is turned upside down. This might either spell doom or do wonders for her career… Or perhaps maybe both. Anyways, we get to witness her rise and fall as the camera follows her in the hot nights and the shady streets of the City of Lights.

Music and horror seems like a match made in hell, but it’s the business side of it that seems to always intrude and ruin things for our beloved protagonist. Paris and Lutèce seem unstoppable at first, but power corrupts… And we can only hope they’d make it alive or undead. Ahem. The underground scene is depicted in vivid colors, making even the graffiti walls shine. We all know there will blood.

Highly recommended with reservations. It has a very solid first half but has slight pacing issues afterwards. This is still very much a rather entertaining film. Worth very much a watch.
