Spoilers love rowdy crowds.

Okey, people, this is not a drill. It’s zombie time. Now, I have gone through zombie fatigue myself. I didn’t think this horror subgenre had nothing new to offer. I found new life in Yeon Sang-Ho’s TRAIN TO BUSAN (2016) and now he’s back with a new bag of tricks to mesmerize and horrify audiences once more. This is a strong candidate for the audience award because it’s undoubtedly a crowd pleaser for a Fantasia audience.

Colony (2026) is directed by Yeon Sang-Ho. Professor Se-jeong (Gianna Jun) is a late minute attendee to a biotech company conference. Little does she know that a resentful former partner is about to do the unthinkable and release a virus that will mutate people into a crazed killers. Yes, we’re stuck in a building with zombies that not only spread the infection with a bite, but they also seem to be evolving.

You will get the expected batch of characters: The good and nice characters that will be willing to risk their lives, the scaredy cats that will need to be rescued, the selfish ones that will sacrifice other people, and of course the uncaring government officials that will be more worried about their public image than saving the people that are trapped. But in addition, the filmmakers have come up with nice little additions to the zombie lore that will need to be discovered before they can be exploited. Too bad that in the midst of all this we have a devious and sinister villain that has put all this in place and is two steps ahead.

Strongly recommended. Zombie fans in particular will be thrilled to discover the mutations and additions that enforce or subvert the genre. Most enjoyed with a nice rowdy crowd of horror fans and enthusiasts of the zombie genre. Very much worth a watch while you’re having a bite.
