You want to get crazy? Let’s get crazy. I haven’t watched film so infamously worthy of the adjective psychotropic until I saw this one. It’s a strange experience to watch because you don’t know what’s going to happen next, which I found enjoyable. Actually, sometimes you’re not even sure what’s happening as it’s happening which might constitute an allure unto itself. If you want to talk WTF factor this movie has it in droves and then some.

Fried Barry was written and directed by Ryan Kruger based on the short film of the same name. You don’t need to know much. Barry (Gary Green) is a complete asshole who doesn’t care for his wife, his kid or anybody else. He just goes from one drug bender to the next until one in particular really ends pulling him out of this world. What comes back is a completely fried version of himself that seems to be driven to engage into more drugs, sex and craziness with an added twist.
I’m not going to give you the plot. It involves drugs and probably some alien encounters. That’s all you need to know. I barely think it’s necessary to string it together. Gary Green carries this entire movie with his expressive facial gestures that range from goofy to downright scary. You start wondering how does a character like Barry end up being dragged into a rave, given drugs and engaging in random sex encounters without being able to speak normally.
Highly recommended for a crazy WTF good time. It goes completely nuts fast. There’s a little feel of a gonzo quality to the whole thing. It also has a crazy color pallette of a cinematography that is kept both carefully restrained and unleashed wildly just for your amusement. I enjoyed the wild trip from the safety of my couch. Mad props to Gary Green’s calculated unhinged performance which made him strangely endearing.
That will do for now.
