Spoilers are glad that at least they were not vaping.
Time to put a little psychedelic melding of self into your summer. Just don’t expect it to be legally approved. Whether we approve or not, recreational drugs exist, but what to do when the experience is enhanced into a virtual reality that could consume our own existence? These and other questions might arise for inquisitive minds while some others might ponder exactly what’s going on. Let’s explore.

Infinite Summer (2024) is directed by Miguel Llansó. Mia (Teele Kaljuvee-O’Brock) is the shy wallflower of her friends’ clique which includes the popular Grete (Johanna Rosin), and mean girl Sarah (Hannah Gross). They like spending their summer in Estonia going to the beach, partying and cruising the net for date matches. But after Mia agrees to meet Evo, or “Dr. Mindfulness” (Ciaron Davies) as he calls himself, they are introduced to a cyber-hallucinogenic experience like no other. It might be a mindless high for Grete and Sarah but Mia notices the mindfulness app is changing them. Exploring the concept the transhumanism and the melding of identities and individualities into the ether, this is one trippy concoction.
It’s strange how the film begins with a cast that seems taken out of your teenage slasher flick. Mia behaves pretty much like the final girl of a horror film. I also found Teele Kaljuvee-O’Brock jarring when she would occasionally switch to English, mumbling her words and delivering them flat, but then again she would sound normal in Estonian. It also took me out of the picture the wooden delivery from the police detectives, which quirks and weird intonations felt right out of a David Lynch film. I would prefer the storytelling to follow suit and have the same surrealistic vibe that Dr. Mindfulness’ app experience but perhaps this was a directorial choice. The special effects are rather well produced.
Recommended, flaws and all to audiences looking for a new experience. Casual audiences, I don’t know what you’re doing here – but I’d say perhaps you should also take a look and give it a try. Very much worth a watch.
That will do for now.
