Spoilers think they saw a tentacle go up your nose.

A creature feature is a film or TV show that features prominently a monster, or the threat of one. In this case, the Adams filmmaker family has been inspired by a trip they took across the Canadian province of Alberta and ended up filming it in Serbia. Now, I feel obliged to reveal here that we’re going for more schlock gore than horror. Actually, this one is more gory comedy than anything else.

Hell Hole (2024) is directed by Toby Poser and John Adams. An American crew has been given permission to drill in the ruins of an abandoned coal mine in Serbia. Because of their intention to use fracking they’re also supervised by scientists exploring for signs of endangered species in the area. What they find is their drill hits something that has organic tissue. They’ll eventually run into a man that seems to have been encased into a flesh cocoon for centuries. What’s worse, the man seems to have something growing inside of him.

As a full disclosure here, I’ll let you know that I had my hopes up for a horror feature and was letdown with the discovery that it is more of a silly madcap creature feature with dark comedic twists. So this one is more of a late night gore fest and not really much of a scare. Seems this has been the trend this year, with a lot of films labelled as thriller or horror but not really fitting that genre.

Lightly recommended but more as a light creature feature with comedic overtones. Don’t expect any chills or frights to come your way. That being said, if you’re an audience wanting to laugh at over-the-top gore this might be your movie. Perhaps worth a watch for a late night viewing.

That will do for now.
