the amazing book hunt

Hello, hello!

Finally I’m letting people see this blog.  Let’s see what I have to report this weekend.

Initially I ment to take it slow. Friday was a sleep in day. I’m glad at least I went for a haircut. It was long overdue. I also put up my towel holder bought four months ago. Then I got 4 books of Steven Erikson’s Malazan saga from Chapters for the price of three.

Saturday I went for dim sum for J’s and J’s birthday. It was fun, filling and I actually survived without overstuffing myself. I left my friends to go hunting for an old game, some books and a bag for my netbook.

The old game, believe or not was the Diablo Battle Chest. I intend to run the old Diablo II game in my netbook. I have this nostalgia thing about games and books. I always like to see them treated properly.

The book hunt went crazy. I was supposed to take advantage of Chapters and Indigo’s offer of buy 3 books, get the fourth one free again. So I intended to nab the other four remaining books of Steven Erikson’s Malazan saga. Chapters had Midnight Tides, Reaper’s Gate and the ever elusive Gardens of the Moon (which I’m already reading but from a different printing). However they were missing Bonehunters. Indigo had Bonehunters and all the books above but was missing Gardens of the Moon.

What to do? Well, I talked to both stores since they belong to the same chain. It was agreed that I would pick three books from Indigo, get back to Chapters, have them reimburse the books again and then resell them to me so I could pick up Gardens of the Moon.  It involved a little runaround (I went home to make sure I had the correct missing titles right) but it actually worked. And that’s how I ended up tired but now I have the complete eight books that comprise the Malazan Book of the Fallen in my library. Whew.

In the evening, I went to see J’s last show with the Wax Buckets. I had missed all her previous shows so I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss this one. I met with O and J and we had some late night crepes at Tropical Hawaii.

Sunday has been a bit of a bust. After doing my laundry I succumbed to heat and fell asleep most of the day. I woke up and decided to install my AC to be ready for the next heat wave.

That will do for now.
